Sadness

Besides the fact that I wish this image had a cleaner background, I though it turned out pretty well. I shot this last night at a local meeting where a group of community members were fighting for a traffic light to be installed at a dangerous intersection in their neighborhood. I'm betting that you are wondering what this photo has to do with it. Well, here is the caption...

Sammy Quinones, father of 4-year-old, Jada Jean Quinones, who was killed in a June 13 car accident at the intersection of M20 and Vance Road, shows a tattoo that he got in memory of his daughter shortly after the accident. Quinones and his family, along with other members of their community, are fighting for the instillation of a traffic signal at the intersection where his daughter was killed. Quinones, who drives through the intersection daily on his way to work, said "Until I see a light there, I won't be happy."

This intersection is just a stones throw from my place, and I'm aware of the danger. I can actually see the make-shift memorial for Jada from my front widow. Even though I wasn't here when the accident occurred, I have talked to multiple people in the community that it has effected. It was such a tragedy. I hope that there is a solution to the traffic problem in this area soon. I mean, who doesn't want a safer intersection? It's just the approach that is debatable. Either way, I'm pro-safety. I think Sammy and his wife, Katie, are very brave for making themselves so open to the community. I wish them the best of luck in their fight.
